Steps for License Reinstatement

Human Skills and Resources Inc.

Shortly after your arrest, you should receive a letter from the Department of Public Safety that will include:

1        Amount of reinstatement fee

2        Date you are eligible to reinstate your license

3        Instructions to obtain an alcohol/drug assessment and follow the recommendations.

The assessment MUST be performed by a counseling professional CERTIFIED by the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services as a DUI assessor.  At the end of your assessment, you will be given specific requirements to complete (DUI School, Victim’s Impact Panel, treatment, etc.).  When you finish the requirements, return proof of completion to the assessor.  At that time, a certificate of completion will be issued to you.  This certificate will bear a red stamp indicating the date all requirements have been satisfied.  You will submit, in person or by mail, an original of this certificate along with the reinstatement fee in money order made out to the DPS.

DUI Process:  What To Do First

Call (918) 747-6377 – Tulsa

       (918) 224-0225 – Sapulpa

       (918) 283-1423 - Claremore

We can provide general information over the phone as well as schedule your appointments.  The process will be quicker if you have the following information ready;

        1. Driver License number

        2. Date of birth

        3. Date, city, type of offense, attorney name

        4. Documentation of Blood Alcohol Content (BAC).  This can be found on your yellow ticket or arrest report.

        5. Method of payment (cash, M/C, Visa, Money Order)

Once we have all the necessary information, you will complete specific assessment tools to assist in determining the most appropriate intervention level.  This is a standard series of questions that all clients must take.

This is a personal, confidential appointment.  The entire assessment process will last approximately two hours.  The State requires each DUI assessor to individually assess the client and then determine what level of services or what recommendations are appropriate.  We are required to ask you a series of questions in order to make that determination.

You must wait the revocation period (usually 6 months) and either mail or take your assessment certificate (with the red stamp) to the Department of Public Safety.  (The revocation period may increase due to number of alcohol/drug arrests.)

For an arrest prior to November 1, 2008, the assessment fee is $175.  For an arrest after November 1, 2008, the assessment fee is $160.  The fees are mandatory and regulated by the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.

If your license is not revoked but you have a court date, you may still need to do a substance abuse evaluation.  The fee will be $100.  This fee will assess your treatment needs but will not be sufficient for driver’s license reinstatement.

ADSAC (Alcohol Drug Substance Abuse Course) is the same as DUI classes.  There are two types of ADSAC/DUI classes, a 10 hour class and a 24 hour class.  Which class you should take will be determined by the assessment.

You or your attorney can apply to the Department of Public Safety for a modified driver’s license.  This may require that you have an ignition interlock device installed in your vehicle.  This device is an on demand breathalyzer that will require you to blow into the instrument in order for your vehicle to start or remain started.  Call DPS for more information regarding fees and requirements.  (918) 632-7710 or (405) 425-2098

A driver’s license can be revoked upon conviction of drug related offense.  You will be required to complete all of the same requirements as a DUI offense.
